How RenoScribe calculates
A useful estimate shows where its numbers came from, what was rounded and what still needs verification.
Shared rules
Inputs are converted to a single internal unit system, formulas are applied without AI interpretation, and the results are converted back for display. Purchase units - gallons, boxes, pieces and bags - round up because partial units are usually not sold.
Focused calculators expose their allowance as an editable percentage. The combined room planner displays fixed planning allowances of 5% for paint and 10% for flooring and baseboard. Defaults are starting points, not universal recommendations.
Paint
RenoScribe calculates the perimeter wall area, subtracts the opening area, multiplies by coats and allowance, then divides by the entered square-foot-per-gallon coverage. Manufacturer labels supersede the default.
Tile and flooring
Area is multiplied by the selected cutting allowance. Tile pieces and boxes round up separately. The room planner estimates flooring boxes from the carton coverage entered by the user.
Concrete
Rectangular volume is calculated from length, width and depth. The bag estimate uses the bag yield entered by the user. Structural thickness, soil, reinforcement and code are outside the calculator.
Accuracy boundaries
Results depend on accurate dimensions, rectangular geometry, consistent depth, stated product performance and the selected allowance. Site irregularities, installation technique, pattern, substrate and packaging can change the actual requirement.
Source policy
Where a default or planning convention benefits from a reference, RenoScribe links to a manufacturer or major retailer on the relevant calculator page. Sources are checked before publication and should be rechecked when product specifications change.
